These guys can still get by without working and when they do work it's never enough money. You should be lucky to have a job there. If owned this company I would move it to a right to work state like Arizona if you want to work, work. If not there are a lot of others who can do your job, probably better and for less money. Now you all are going to get scared because you think you deserve all this extra, but remember this is not skilled labor anyone could do this work .
I also believe unions are the downfall of Michigan's economy. There are so many people unemployed that would love a job. Any job. This group may want to look around and they will see so many companies are closing and reopening in states where a union wages and benefits are not required. Boeing, which is based in Seattle, just opened a non-union plant in North Carolina. Now the state of Washington is worried about the ripple effect on contracts. Many companies in Washington depend on Boeing.
I was a teamster once, but all they were good for was to protect the whiners, complainers, and slackers, and to collect dues to pay for non-working business agents. How smart is this gang to go on strike in the "worst recession since the great depression". Michigan has the worst economy in the country and the most union representation...coincidence? I think not.
Why is it that people act as though all unions are the same? Its not as though the union for metalworks was greedy or wanted a raise, metalworks proposed a paycut of two or three bucks an hour and they voted no on it. That would have put them at nine dollars an hour. I dont understand why they're grouped with gm employees that are getting thirty dollars and up.
As is typical of union people, they always think they are "entitled" to more money regardless of the economy. Let's face it, the union ruined Detroit's automobile industry with their ridiculous demands. When will the Metalwork's former union lick their wounds and go get a job? I admire those that did. Those that did not are still looking for a hand out. They thought they were "entitled" to the various food banks in Ludington, but that served to deprive food to those that really needed it. Shame on you!
Early in my life, I was forced to join a union. Every two weeks, they took out about 4 hrs. pay, and then arranged a deal where temporary workers, like I was, got some benefits I would never use, but I lost 20% of my pay additionally. My boss was easy to work with, the union steward was not. This being said, I think the MW strikers have very valid points and were denied fair arbitration. The city leaders have shown no leadership, and the local media has shown little compassion for those who have displayed their unity over this last year in their ideals. MW Strikers, I will always honk for you no matter how long your strike continues.
These strikers are losers in the truest sense of the word. Would someone please tell me when they'll be gone from Sixth Street and Conrad Drive? In the summer they brought their kids in to picket - what a pathetic example for your children!
Many thanks to everyone in the union for sticking up for fair wages, if there werent so many scabs you would still have jobs. It was hard to make a living wage with the union, people were only getting around 12-13 dollars an hour. Working at metalworks now is like flipping burgars minus the free meal. Scabs will always be remembered by many. Also I am not part of the union but I do have many friends that I support.
HMMM 12-13 dollars is better then food stamps I will take that job I cleaned for the goverment for 8 years and only made 9hr SO YES I WOULD TAKE YOUR JOB:)
