Maybe the long undiscovered plumes going on there, unknown for years, is spoiling that water for homeowners too, like the ones by Straits? Just curious. Great decision making too on the spot, let's fix it, eh?
Eddie- To form the sink hole, the hole in the line was most likely on the TOP of the line, then washing away the soil that had fallen into it. And this is sanitary sewer. Not a great thing to have leaking, but not toxic chemicals either. Septic tanks and drain fields do the same thing. The contamination would be isolated to the upper water levels which are almost always restricted against wells being installed. The City had no way of knowing the leak was there until they dug it up. It is a good thing that they found it. And yes it was a good thing they are fixing it. No matter what is posted on here, you always seem to pick a fight. Like your sanitary sewage doesn't stink.
