I voted for Scripps, but I'm tired of listening to him whine about the school cuts. The fact is that schools must learn to make do with less, like everyone else. Many superintendents and principals will cry, but it's time to consolidate districts. Michigan's population is decreasing, and we do NOT need a high school in every tiny little hamlet.

dedhed1969, do you have children that go to school in this area? You make no sense! My children started school this year without a reading program in place because funding wasn't set for it yet. It's not ok to continue to cut money to the schools when it's about the children and their educations. There are other avenues the state could take, but doesn't. Where would they put all of the kids if they consolidated the schools? Ludington is not nearly big enough to house all of the area children nor is Scottville or Custer.

I agree Christine that there are other options to make cuts and avoid the school funds however the lawmakers have thier own projects to protect and want to use schools for leverage. I figure let them make the cuts where they will and likely against the wishes of the people. We are responcible for the education of our children not the government in the end and home schooling is always a possible option.

Cristine, Whether or not I have children is irrelevant. What is relevant is that while our home values have tumbled this year, our taxes were still raised 4.3%. Wages are stagnant, people are losing their jobs, home values are tumbling, yet taxes are still rising. I'll say it again. Schools need to make do with less like everyone else. So there is no reading program at your kid's school. Cry me a river. You know how to read, so you can teach him/her to read.
