Lakeshore Animal Friends help the Animal control with stray or abandoned animals. They help with fostering them and the vet. bills of the ones adopted. That is a great thing, and well needed. I personally have donated items for their yard sale and volunteered my time to them and to the Humane Society. We all work together as much as possible. The three organizations that are helping the animals in Mason County are fairly specialized in their goals. This is what I understand as their functions: The Humane Society helps with the spay & neuter certificates. They have fostered animals and helped with other vet expenses but they are limited in the number and age their of volunteers. Also money is an isIsue. They are limited to helping Mason county animals Lakeshore Animal Friends helps with the animals that end up at the Mason County Animal Control. They volunteer their time and money to taking care of these homeless animals and try to adopt them to good forever homes. LAF then gets the animals vet checked and spayed and neutered. They are limited to Mason County Our Wish Spay & Neuter raises money by tag days and cookie dough sales and gives it directly to the vets to help owners offset some of the cost of spaying and neutering their own dogs and cats. We help people in three counties, Mason, Manistee and Lake. Last year we were approached and agreed to have another part of our charter. It is called "Community Cats" This organization is part of Our Wish, but seperate. It's function is to help the stray and abandoned cats in Mason County. It has started the TNR program, (trap, neuter/spay/ and release). They are getting volunteers and money together and will start this endevor very soon. All of the organizations are very supportive of each other but we all need many volunteers and community support as possible. All of our goals are to have no unwanted dogs and cats. That is OUR WISH.
