They should also start teaching these children about what happens after you do stupid things...like crime and punishment, and the JAIL time you will face if you do stupid things!! My God Michigan!!! this crap should NOT happen in our small towns!!
That doesn’t make any sense Ben. You need to realize that anything can happen in a small town. This incident doesn’t have anything to do with their parents failing to teach them about crime and punishment. At some point kids have to have accountability of their actions and as a society we need to stop making excuses for kids and stop blaming their parents. They committed a crime and they will pay.
Small towns are not immune to crime, and with the way the economy is going, it's bound to get far worse before it gets better. As for parents being blamed for the actions of a 17yr old, Remember, legally they are adults and can do what they want. It's not like you can spank or ridicule your children for bad behavior anymore, those rights have been stripped away by the law, spanking a child nowadays can get you put in jail for child abuse. So how do you discipline your children for right and wrong? Time out? Writing a 1000 times "I will never steal a car or break into a store." Yeah, right. I'm sure that will work. People need to take heed that even though we are small towns, should be well protected with security systems and cameras like the Wishing Well. Had this business not had this equipment in place there wouldn't be the evidence they acquired to put these offenders behind bars.
Ben, your ignorance amazes me. Apparently, you don't realize a number of things. One being that we are a 'diversivied' community.(no matter who did this crime) Further, most of our population of 'kids' are not privalaged. As well, did you ever think some might have emotional or mental disorders?(never mind going hungry to bed at night or the afflictions their parents suffer) Wake-up!
Are you kidding me....Ben is talking about bringing kids up more like it used to be,When you needed a lickin you got one not this lets make excuses for everone who does something wrong. When will we wake up and take the time to raise up our children properly............
I say obviously these kids have some issues if you look at their past records and jail has done no good. Why not look into some kind of mental help? The parents should not no way be blamed for their actions. What it is these kids have nothing better to do in these Small Towns and are doing crazy stupid crap to have something to do and to see if they can get away with it and if they didnt have mental issues they wouldnt even think of doing a crime for something to do.
Virginia - Maybe if these kids would go out and get jobs, they wouldn't need to steal cars and crash them into businesses for "something to do"
