By the sounds of it, it sounds like a disappointing and disgusting way to end a close and hard fought campaign. It also will prove why moral was down at the MCSO.
Let's give Sheriff Fiers the benefit of the doubt right now, at least until the end of this year, then we may all know what the real motives were. And hope that Phillips will be charged with more crime, as is warranted.
This type of behavior is what gives the political system and many very good people in that system a bad name. People become angry at the political system and politicians country wide when it is just the few unscrupulous ones that are to blame. We are fortunate to have most of the local, state and federal politicians that Michigan has and has had in the recent past. It is sad that they will be lumped in with the likes of Fiers.
Why do Cole partisans decide that Fiers' comment was a move to get votes? Does anyone believe that someone changed their vote because more serious charges might be leveled against someone serving 10-15 yrs. already? What bothers me more is LPD Chief Barnett saying Fiers' statement is untrue-- as if he has any say in the matter of what the Prosecutor is going to do in one or two months-- and infer it was a politically motivated statement. That and the Daily News accepting that statement without further comment.
